Media and Information Languages (Lab)
A local government official was charged of graft and corruption and was suspended from his office. The government official announced that the charges were all fabricated and that he will not step down from his office. A large group of supporters are present to protest. They barricaded the building where the official has once taken office. A struggle seems to start breaking out between the protesters and the police.
I think an issue like this will immediately be broadcasted on radio, television and internet. Radio, television and internet would be fast to air the happenings in the local governments’ office. Platforms like social media and television will cover the rage from the barricade outside the government official’s office. Radio and print media will present information through the reporters.
The presentation of facts through internet, television, and radio tends to use lesser number of words compared to print media. Details in television and radio may not be presented fully because of the time limit. Therefore, the elaboration of an event may be weak. But these media platforms also shows concrete evidence through visuals and audio unlike print media.
The three, especially internet, can use less formal and simpler words in the presentation. Articles in the internet tends to have exaggerated headlines as click bait. Print media applies more formal convention in terms of writing an article. Print journalism follows a sequence of elements that journalists follows to effectively convey information.
A lot of differences of different media forms are based on their individual characteristics. Factors such as audience, form, style and accessibility are considered in each media platform.
If were reporter, I will also use the conventional way of how the each media presents information. The current broadcasting methods are easily received by the public and I think there are no evident flaws on the current method. Using the conventional way of each media is designed according to its style.
Rather to not make it boring, I must prioritize the facts involved in my report. To catch the attention of the readers or viewers, I must shape the writing in the shortest length possible. Same with broadcasting, the less the number of words, the lesser chance of losing the attention span of the audience. It is important to catch the reader's attention but to be a responsible information source, it must be guided with the truth.
I would exaggerate some elements in my report to make things a little less boring. Exaggerating is not exactly bad as long as it sticks with facts and does not go far from the event. As I've said, the facts must always surface. The interesting elements comes after.
