INTERNET OF THINGS

Internet of things is a concept of internet-connected devices, anything with an on and off switch, that grows larger and scopes wider as the technology evolves. Through these network of things, information is exchanged.
The concept of internet of things emerged in 1999. One of the first examples of an Internet of Things is from the early 1980s, and was a Coca Cola machine, located at the Carnegie Melon University. Local programmers would connect by Internet to the refrigerated appliance, and check to see if there was a drink available, and if it was cold, before making the trip. However, communication has used machines since the invention of telephone.

I like the idea of internet of things because it connects people in every industry despite the diversity. Internet of things solve problems of humans and adjust to them. And I can’t imagine a life not having to use Internet of Things.
I’ve encountered internet of things while I was in the hospital. The machines that monitors a patient’s condition and other tools are enabled by the internet of things. Health applications on smart phones that sends notification for the user to exercise and can measure pulse rate is also a simple situation that uses IoT.
In the next 3 to 5 years, there will be a lot more products involved in the network and somehow, it will help the economy of the country while the citizens become more inclined to devices. IoT will open opportunities for Filipinos. The exchange of data will be more advanced. Although the country is a slightly left behind, I believe it can cope with the evolution.
As the internet of things evolve, the risk in security is getting high too. IoT uses different forms of media to work and connect to several things through media. Now, a user should be responsible of the information involved in the network. Users must have the knowledge and skills to engage in the internet of things effectively.
